Ivy Tech Automotive Technology

Our team structured innovative financing and guided development planning to deliver a modern workforce facility without reliance on state funding.

Ivy Tech Community College built a new Automotive Technology Center on Indianapolis’ west side to expand workforce training for in-demand automotive and diesel careers. Designed for hands-on learning and modern vehicle technologies, the facility allows the program to double enrollment and better prepare students for today’s automotive workforce.

The Challenge

The former facility was landlocked, inefficient and limited enrollment to about 300 students. At the same time, Indiana’s automotive industry faced significant workforce shortages, with limited training capacity for students—many from low-income and minority backgrounds—who needed access to modern facilities.

HOW COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT MADE A DIFFERENCE

THE SOLUTION:

Our team helped advance the project by securing New Markets Tax Credit financing in partnership with Indy Community Development Entity, eliminating the need for state funding.  Our team supported site selection on the west side, coordinated development planning and worked with industry partners to ensure the facility could train students on hybrid, electric and alternative-fuel vehicles.

WHAT WE ACHIEVED:

The Automative Technology Center significantly expanded access to workforce training while strengthening Indiana’s automotive talent pipeline. The facility supports higher enrollment, modernized instruction and strong job placement outcomes while contributing to reinvestment in the International Marketplace District.
